Lando Norris finally ended his win drought in F1 at the Miami GP. The British driver managed to take the race lead after a Safety Car period. Moreover, the McLaren driver was successful in fending off Max Verstappen throughout the race as he crossed the chequered flag in first place. Now, former F1 driver Anthony Davidson has stated that Norris can take the fight to Verstappen in the future as well.

F1 pundit Craig Slater had asked Davidson, if Lando Norris could challenge Max Verstappen on equal terms. The former Honda driver gave a swift reply, stating that the 23-year-old had incredible racing ability. Moreover, Anthony Davidson pointed out that Norris performs well in wet conditions while perfectly analyzing the course of any race.

Yes. In one word, yes. He’s [Lando Norris] got incredible ability. He’s great in the rain, brilliant at reading the grand prix. Anthony Davidson said, as reported by Crash.net

The former F1 driver mentioned that Lando Norris remained calm when he inherited the lead under the Safety Car. Anthony Davidson highlighted McLaren’s clever race strategy which allowed Norris to maintain a sufficient lead against Verstappen by pitting a lap later than the majority of the grid.

He kept the team calm under the Safety Car conditions. He didn’t want to pit immediately. He knew it would be a long yellow flag period. They waited a lap to bring him in, to ensure he’d come out with a healthy lead. Anthony Davidson stated

Anthony Davidson suggests Max Verstappen and Red Bull could come back ‘strong’ at Imola

Red Bull will be bringing an upgrade package to the next round in Imola. The Austrian team faced stiff competition in Miami as McLaren and Mercedes brought updates to their cars. However, Milton Keynes could once again increase its pace advantage at the Emila Romagna GP in the coming weekend.

Anthony Davidson claimed that there was a high chance that the reigning world champions would bounce back stronger at Imola. The former F1 driver reckoned that Max Verstappen might have a similar weekend like the Japanese GP, when the Dutch driver dominated the race after retiring from the previous round in Australia.

There is a high chance, in the next race, that the Red Bull might come back strong. A bit like when he [Max Verstappen] came to Suzuka and said ‘this is where I’m at’ after a disappointing race at Melbourne. Anthony Davidson noted

Certainly, Lando Norris would be hoping to challenge Max Verstappen in more races this year. Although, Red Bull are likely to continue having an upper hand against the Woking-based team. Nevertheless, fans could be in for a thrilling contest between Verstappen and Norris if McLaren make further gains over the course of this season.
